Rid your home and car of cigarettes, lighters, ashtrays, and matches.
Seeing any of these items, or even smelling stale, disgusting cigarette
smoke may be enough to weaken your resolve to stop smoking.
Make a note of why you are quitting. Sometimes it's a good idea to write down exactly why you want to stop smoking.
You
may find it beneficial to chew a nicotine gum when you begin your
tobacco cessation program. The gum will provide a small dose of nicotine
while you become accustomed to life without cigarettes. Make
sure you tell yourself that you are not going to smoke each and every
day. As you get up in the morning, you should try telling yourself that
you are not going to smoke a single cigarette. Remember
that the hardest part of quitting is usually those first couple of
days. Mentally prepare yourself to tough it out for just the first two
days, and then just the first week, and you will probably be in good
shape after that.
